about
Stage; left (2022) for brass septet
Stage; left takes as its central image an empty stage, one on which performances used to happen but which now lies silent. What would it be like to imagine an opera in a world where stages must remain empty? What would be the soundtrack to that silence? This vision no longer seems quite so remote - we were all recently thrust into just such a world. This music, then, is a remembrance of things past, and an ode to those things that were lost.
Performed by Septura Brass, 02.12.22, in the Duke's Hall at the Royal Academy of Music, London.
